commentFemale Head Portraits 1900s — 2.
Women bought such cards with an eye to copying the hairdo or a piece of clothing sported by the dolled-up beauties portrayed. Even though some of the models were nearly world-famous, more often than not the fashion blueprints they conveyed often stood out in greater prominence than their identity, what with a goodly number of their female contemporaries being more likely to follow somebody’s lead than their own bent.
The role of these head shots in the life of the early 20th century society cannot be underestimated considering the increased role of women in it. While these cards still held a considerable appeal to men, it was obvious that the genre was now angled at women.
