Florenz Ziegfeld was an artistic and a truly bright person in the artistic world history. Among his most famous creations were the following extravaganzas: the Follies and the Show Boat. They showed the depth of the author’s talent being the opposites and showing the great range of his faculty for plays. The Follies featured many performers who, though well-known from previous work in other theatrical genres, achieved unique financial success and publicity with Ziegfeld. Among them were such names as Fanny Brice, W. C. Fields, Eddie Cantor, Marilyn Miller. As for the well-known Show Boat According to an eyewitness, the audience barely applauded on opening night, but it was not because they disliked the show, but because they were so taken aback as it was now an unusually dramatic storyline and it was a great success.
Ziegfeld is interred in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, Westchester Co., New York. The wonderful picture on this page is the one of the lady standing against the brownish background. It is quite interesting for us as it fills one with the sense of rotation. Her hands are raised towards the ceiling and it seems as is she were performing an awkward dance.
